1st Grade has been learning about Peter and the Wolf! Last week they learned about the oboe and when Mrs. Baxter said she used to play the oboe. They asked if there was a video. Mrs. Baxter had to dig around a bit, but managed to find a video from high school!
Mrs. Baxter wants to graciously thank those who have helped purchase books to use for Solo and Ensemble in the upcoming weeks! The Junior High Band members have been working hard in small groups preparing ensemble pieces and solos they picked out themselves from the books we received. Solo and Ensemble will take place at Trinity Lutheran School on February 28th.
In 8th grade, students are exploring the techniques of underpainting and the grid system, both of which were pioneered by Renaissance artists like Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), best known for painting the Mona Lisa. These methods were later reimagined and adapted by contemporary artists such as Chuck Close (1940-2021), renowned for his large-scale portraiture. For this project students are using these techniques to make portraits of their Confirmation saints. Confirmation for CCCS 8th graders will be celebrated this this spring.

Today in Technology 8th grade took advantage of the beautiful weather. They designed and built rockets weeks ago, and have been waiting to launch them! We will be entering our data into Google Sheets and creating graphs.
